309 stainless steel and 309S stainless steel are both austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels that offer excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance, along with good strength at room and elevated temperatures. The main difference between the two is the lower carbon content in 309S, which helps minimize carbide precipitation and improves weldability.Both 309 and 309S stainless steels are generally nonmagnetic in the annealed condition. However, they can become slightly magnetic when cold worked.Regarding the stock of ASTM A240 309/309S stainless steel plates, the available thickness ranges from 6mm up to 80mm, and the width options include 1250mm, 1500mm, and 2000mm.
